We have been associating traveling with tourism for years. This has led to many people considering touring a place and traveling through it as the same experience.
With the growing world of travelers and overflowing tourism, we have started noticing a difference. This difference is between a tourist and a traveler.
Not everyone who tours a place is a traveler.
There are people who plan vacations full of a day-long itinerary and then there are some who don’t even book a return flight prior going to the place.
The difference could be blurred, but it is easy to find out which one are you with these 5 travelling traits.
Passing through OR truly there ?
Are you someone who travels to places to look for the top things to do ? Or do you like staying in a homestay and taking a look at the local culture ?
Well, that’s the difference in the style of exploration you like to do. A traveler often likes to seep in the local culture, habits, nature and vibe of a new place they’re traveling to and thus truly “stay there” for a longer period.
While a tourist majorly has a short period of travel good enough to tick off the top things to do from a tourist’s perspective.
So if you like to stay longer at one place rather than exploring around only the touristy spots, and you like to live up to a place rather than only visit it, you’re a traveller in true sense.
Adventurous only for social media ?
For some people, adventure means going on a bungee jumping only for the sake of a reel or risking your life to just get a perfect shot, while for true travellers the adventure is about moving out of the comfort zone of their home and travelling far off to – relax and soak in the vibe of that place.
So if you’re someone who loves to linger around places rather than hopping over mindles adventures, you can call yourself a “traveller” in swing.
Have your custom itinerary planned
So how many times do you choose a place on your whim and do your own research for days or even months to make an itinerary that completely suits your taste ?
if this is something not so uncommon to you, then you’re indeed a big time traveller.
This is because, where most people book or plan their trips via a travel agency, with a traditional sightseeing plan and hire a complete package ( a good option to save your time & effort in all that hefty research ), a true traveller always prefers to do his/her own research and plan things accordingly. They rarely rely on an agency to do their complete booking because they start investing themselves in the trip even before it starts – that’s the beauty of travelling.
Likes unique experiences
For every place that we travel, there are always multiple experiences available for tourists. But not everyone likes to have experiences that are unique or offbeat. For example, most of the tourists who plan their first ever trip to the middle east, prefer going to Dubai, a tourist hub and it truly deserves to be one. However, not many know that just 4 hrs away from Dubai is another middle-eastern place, rather a country, Oman – that is full of nature’s wonders, Arabian culture, history and heart-warming hospitality.
So if you are someone who likes to discover or explore places that are lesser-known or less-hyped rather than going to the places that have a high status on a tourist map, then you’re certainly a traveler.
Well, those are the few things which I observe as a point of difference between a tourist and a traveler and there is nothing wrong on being either side and totally depends upon your mood or nature.
So let me know which one you are ….. To Find out yourself, start traveling as the world is waiting for your answer!
Ready for spontaneity
Not everyone who travels is a tourist – as a tourist has well laid plan and a checklist to follow.
Tourists usually have a set schedule for the day and they make sure to follow it to the T so that they come back home with a pride of checking off the list.
On the other hand, a traveler knows that unpredictability is an unavoidable part of travel.
Even if they come across some unforeseen events or a change in plans, they openly accept it.
If you’re ready for spontaneous changes in your travel plans, you understand that openness is the essence of traveling. This is more important than adhering to a list made by your travel agency. In this way, you’re a traveler in the truest sense.
Has her own itinerary
